@realisticHomeboy I think the psychology part is that people are not able to see how it works, and are then confused at how he knows which square they will land on, no matter which "choices" they make.

Yes, the trick has nothing to do with psychology, it is pure mathematics.

BUT: the story around it, the wrong clue, giving it the name 'prediciton', that all is what a good magician does too.

And that is the point, Mr. Wiseman wanted to show us: we are absolutely fixed on what others pretend to do in the next few seconds, that we don't pay attention to this afterwards. So - when it eventually shows up that all is an illusion - we are all stunned. And this really has to do with psychology.
