European Greenfinch, or just Greenfinch, Carduelis chloris, is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae. Chloris from the Greek Khloros meaning "greenish-yellow," "pale green," "pale," "pallid" or "fresh".
The Greenfinch is 14-16 cm in length, is mainly green, with yellow in the wings and tail. The female and young birds are duller and have brown tones on the back. The bill is thick and conical. The song contains wheezes and twitters, and the male has a "butterfly" display flight.
Woodland edges, farmland hedges and gardens with relatively thick vegetation are favoured for breeding. It nests in trees or bushes, laying 3-8 eggs.
This species can form large flocks outside the breeding season, sometimes mixing with other finches and buntings. They feed largely on seeds, but also feed their young insects.

no, you are ridiculous asshole to want to catch these birds.

  • oooh. i love greenfinch'es! i have kissed one when i rescued it out of my house.

  • in our country Malta we cant catch these birds anymore because of goverment and eu and outher countreis in eu can this is ridiculious !!!

  • you can also let him out of the cage, he will return for food.

  • Maybe I have misunderstood you, if so please excuse my stupidity but my unerstanding you are actually going to keep a Green Finch in a cage? If that is the case, then please don't, if you want to see birds at their finest look at them in nature, birds have not evolved to exist in cages.

Buy yourself some binoculars and a bird book and off you go, an interest for life with no harm to the birds.

  • Ive purchased a male about a week ago, and today heard it sang like a canary. However me bird isnt as beautifully coloured like the one shown on here, maybe me bird is still a bit young.... i hope.

Anyways, he's very active and likes to jump around in the cage alot. I just need to get a bigger cage so he can fly around more soon.
