Nice video--great pictures! :)

His is the greatest music never heard.

It's still irksome that Mike Nesmith has rarely been given his just reward as an original songwriter and musician (except by the truly enlightened) because of his Monkees membership (and it's even more irritating that some snobs continue to castigate them mercilessly to this day). Innovative as country-rock pioneer and his cryptic/abstract lyrics were always fab ("St. Matthew"," Auntie's Municipal Court", and "Daily Nightly" are prime examples of his gifts). "Grand Ennui" is country perfection.

Michael and the FNB so much kicked ass on this album. Woo Hoo!

There is a nice article on Nesmith & FNB's contributions to the Alt. country/rock scene in the april 2008 issue of Uncut magazine.

Ah, Papa Nez...so awesome. Wonder if he ever jammed with Hillman, Parsons, Sneaky Pete or any of those dudes...

Remembering Nesmith from when he ran the Hoots at the Troubadour in the late 60's and played once in a while. Amazing early Alt Country ... Thx for posting this
nobody can touch Michael Nesmith when it comes to Country Rock, Gram Parson and Hillman did their thing with the Burrito Brothers (which I love)but nothing like what Nesmith & The First National Band did.
Does anyone know of any FNB live footage???

The trailblazers of country rock were:
1. Michael Nesmith - injected country rock on The Monkees albums, then with FNB and then solo
2. The Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers - the Byrds' "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" gave momentum to Parsons and Hillman with FBB
3. Rick Nelson - melded rockabilly that evolved into country rock with the Stone Canyon Band
4. Poco - Richie Furay and the band preceded the Eagles and the later entry of other country rock bands
