The very last scene from the movie "By Dawn's Early Light". The dialogue is remarkably similar to the lyrics to the song "Ashes in Your Mouth" by Megadeth.

  • Hmmm thi movie kinda makes you think what would the missle silo , flying bombers and nuclear missile submarine crews would " ONCE" they di ther jobs. Kinda make you wonder; anyone her care to give a educated guess?

  • You're asking what would they do after they did their part in a full-scale nuclear war? They would die like everyone else.

  • Other survival "choices" would depend on the survival of the command and control centers, direction of fallout, etc. I'm told the islands in the south pacific would be the safest place to be a post-nuclear world.

  • Even small nuclear wars can have devastating climatic effects. A war in which a mere 100 megatons were exploded, less than one percent of the world arsenals, and only in low-yield airbursts over cities. This scenario would ignite thousands of fires, and the smoke from these fires alone would be enough to generate an epoch of cold and dark almost as severe as in the 5000 megaton case. The threshold for the Nuclear Winter is very low. Nuclear crews carry viles of cyanide...one choice.

  • This was a great movie! I must order it!

  • @albc1964 They already wrote a book about that its called on the beach. You should read it, it was very influential. Alternatively you could watch the movie.

  • managed to buy a copy of this from amazon - I like this :)

  • @geinman1287 well they could have made up anything since the rest of the crew was dead. like they mutiny and were unable to continue the mission. Thats how I'd have handled it. lol

  • In reality, Cassidy and Moreau, if ever they got back, would at least face a court-martial. What would probably save them was the fact that turning their bomber started the chain of events that ended the exchange. They certainly would not be considered heroes, but would probably be treated leniently.

  • Fantastic movie. It really makes you think.

It shows you how some people blindly follow orders while having conflicting thoughts on the matter, and those who think everything is about "winning" and coming out on top. You can't win a nuclear war.

  • The navy would continue to operate as normal. There is no diffrence in peace time and war time at sea. Except you might get killed and that can happen in any regards just by doing regular evolutions. So no big deal over all.

  • albc - very interesting comment. I assume you meant what would they do once they landed their bombers and turned their subs back into port. Who knows, they'd then be part of the now much-reduced military working to rbuild the armed forces and the nation too... very deep!
