Barack Obama has admitted his administration will miss a self-imposed deadline to close the US prison at Guantanamo Bay by January.
The US president also said the timeline for closing it will depend on co-operation from congress.
And while he still hopes the prison will be shut down some time in 2010, he has not set a new deadline.
Al Jazeera's senior Washington correspondent Rob Reynolds reports.

The Gitmo detainees are not there for proposed war crimes, they are suspected of crimes against humanity. They are entitled to a fair trial, where they can offer a defense. It's hypocritical to render guilt and punishment without proof, for a country that promotes democracy. I'm confident in this country's ability to handle dangerous criminals. C.
