(Aug. 6)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] [Notes:various inside shelter]A new victim of the high rate of foreclosures is emerging -- pets.At the Newark, New Jersey animal shelter, the cages are filling fastSOT: Denton Infield, Humane Society of Newark: "people losing their homes to foreclosures. People moving out of high rental apartments into lower rental apartments where the landlords don't allow animals." [Notes:pets in shelter] And all those new residents mean trouble for the future of the shelter.SOT: Infield: "if the animals keep coming in in the situation that they are coming in at the present moment, without finances, I don't think we'll last the next three years." [Notes:great danes in yard]And it's not just shelters...the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League tells the same story.SOT: Mary Francini, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League: "this year we're seeing a lot of financial difficulty and foreclosure -- people giving up dogs that have always been well cared for, but they can't afford them anymore." [Notes:various of animals in cages] The Humane Society in Newark says there's a 20 percent increase in pets getting dropped off and that could mean there won't be enough room for all the cats and dogs.SOT: Infield: "we try our best to find them homes, but if we get over-crowded unfortunately the ones that have been here the longest will be put to sleep." I adopted my dog from the Humane Society b/c her previous owners lost their home, and were living in their car. I pray for them and hope they are doing well at this time, but we were so fortunate to adopt our sweet dog and give it the best life we can. She goes to play care once a week, she eats the best dog food I have researched, gets good medical care......and transforms our lives. We love her and are so grateful she is a part of our family now. We thank them for the wonderful job they did.

Surrey bc Canada S.P.C.A. would not respond to a call to come rescue a small kitten in need, (a little stray came to our back door) we called we begged them to come they would not ,now the kitten is gone :( hope to a better place....the only time the s.p.c.a. comes out anymore is to collect checks,I know they do good sometimes but sometimes (like tonite anyway our Canadian Surrey SPCA. did not care when I die the childrens hospital will get what I have I will never donate to SPCA I'm heart sick

this is so sad .. I couldnt imagine giving up my two little girls ( a mini chinese pekignese and a beagle/chiauhauah mix ) horrible to think that because of our leaders mistakes that we cant keep our beloved pets who are much more like family ... horrible

aw i LOVE great danes. grew up with them my whole life =] i love the cat paw haha. but its sad whats happening :( this is why people need to adopt, and spay/neuter your animals.

what they need to do is regulate the number of animals that are bred. if they keep breeding them like crazy there's gonna be more animals that'll have to be put down.

put them to sleep hat's so freaking sad i would die if my dog was put to sleep even if it was in a shelter i would murder all them people at that shelter! that's so sad!
