  • @thoysman Sounds like a winner. I do prefer the .40 caliber for conceal carry.

I will look for an XDM in .40 caliber 3.8 version. Thanks. Do you know if adjustable sights can be put on the XDM ?

You are correct about the shop. Did not make sense to me, especially with the banner "Glock Team" displayed outside.

  • The XDM line out of the box comes with all you'll need to at least get started with IDPA, two mags (I would suggest buying one more) a Kydex/polymer double mag pouch, mag loader and fitted paddle holster in a hard case. XDMs have a match grade short reset trigger, ambi-mag release, interchangable backstraps, match grade barrel, visual/touch sensitive loaded round indicator and a grip safety in addition to a safe-action type trigger. The XDM 3.8 is better balanced in my opinion since it is my CCW.

  • The 9mm is good as long as you hit, good because it is cheap to shoot and has more firepower being a smaller round (XDM=19+1 vs 16+1 in the .40) The more you shoot, the better you will get, it doesn't kick bad at all for me on follow-up shots because I am used to shooting it. I'm used to .45 ACP so the .40 is a great compromise round, you get .45 ACP ballistics with 30% less recoil & more firepower than a .45 ACP since .40 S&W is a 10mm short, you get firepower closer to 9mm capacity.

  • Frankgon, Yeah that store doesn"t sound too bright, by stating they don't carry them. The Gen 4 Glocks are the company's newest flagship to compete with newer designs and the popularity of guns like the XDM, HKs and FNs. The Glock design is solid but it's a buyer's market, I work at a Gunstore on the weekends and I can tell you we sell a lot of Glocks, but we sell just as many XDs and XDMs due to the price points and additional features. Glock has learned that they need to innovate/adapt.

  • @frankgon4 Story that happened 2 days ago: I went to a small gun store yesterday that had a banner "Glock Team" displayed outside. I asked if they had the genration 4 in stock for me to view. Owner said he did not like them and did not carry them. How crazy is that ? At this point, I have to decide between XDM 3.8 and full size. Now 9mm or .40 caliber. I have no experience with 9mm. For pistol rounds, I have only shot extensively .38, .357mag, .40. .44 mag, 45 ACP, 45 Colt.

  • @thoysman

How is the recoil on the XDM 3.8 .40 caliber? (for faster follow up shots)

Any history with the Springfield Customer service? I only started IDPA to improve my skill set. I can only learn so much at a standard gun range - where I and the target are immobile. I also want a gun that I can conceal. I do lean more toward the XDM. Question is full sized or 3.8 version. The Glock advantage is lower cost and available accessories (magazines, etc.) and replacement parts.

  • If you go with a Glock for purely competition run with the long slide models such as the 17L, 34 or 35 models. The Glocks are also considered SA guns where the Springfields are out of the box ESP guns, the reasons for this is always a debatable/political issue so I won't go into it. I just prefer the XDM since I am wanting more familiarity and improve my shooting skills with my personal protection gun. I personally like the XDM's feel better in my hands along with it's additional safeties.

  • I love my XDM, in fact I am now running the XDM 3.8 in .40 S&W, though it has a shorter sight distance than the full size 4.5" XDM, accuracy is not greatly affected due to the shorter distance in these indoor matches. I am in IDPA not just to compete but to actually improve my shooting skills using my Daily Carry weapon which the XDM 3.8 is at this moment. The Glock Gen 4 is a great weapon as well, I have a M22 Gen 4, but it is not my daily carry.

  • I just shot my first IDPA

How is the XDM working for you ?

I am undecided between XDM and Glock genreation 4.

I wanted a SIG, but for the money, I think XDM and Glock would be a the most bang for my buck.
