Tregardock: From the "Poetry in Motion" album. Justin sings this rarity. Video is taken from three other vintage Moodies videos/appearances and scrambled.

This is my first time using Windows XP movie maker to create a video from other live action clips (and Day 2 of learning the movie maker program). Since the song was never performed live (to my knowledge), there wasn't any way to sync up vocals. I worked on atmosphere and mood for the first part, and then attempted to make a visual rhythm that matched the tone of the song for the second half. It's just another step along the way...

If you like the lyrics, check out more by Sir John Betjeman (the entire Poetry in Motion album is based on his work) on the net.

  • Go to Amazon! It's been reissued under "Words & Music: Sir John Betjeman & Mike Read" and you will find Tregardock on the song list.

  • I would love to see this video with sound, Taranberk.

  • I'd love to see studio footage of the actual recording session...but we can all dream, right?

  • They are singing a totally different song on the video than the song playing !

  • Yeah, this song was never performed live. This video is a learning experiment.

  • Tregardock is a coastal settlement and beach in north Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is situated between Trebarwith Strand and Port Gaverne

Tregardock was the location of a World War II aerial bombing and gunnery range at Treligga aerodrome.

The small beach is accessed by climbing down the cliffs near the settlement of Tregardock.

Tregardock is a stunning beach that is best accessed has the tide recedes. Renowned locally for it's superior surf and secluded location.

  • Tregardock ...dig the 1950s, 60s bobbing rock rhythms blend into progressive rock, the chanting, the layers of rich orchestra: beauty of instruments, voices -- Motown and other influences, you can hear it, feel it, love it -- ... in waiting awfulness appear, like journalism full of hate-- that sense, that awareness is an epic Byron-like poetic transformation; this song, as a whole, is a jewel of the culture -- splendid vocal control: oh, oh, oh... Tre-ee-aee- gara-dock ... ah, ah, ah

  • awe beyond awe, in the vein of Donovan's early obscure songs, yet pointedly of the Justin Renaissance Romantic Byron, sans the Gaelic folk of the jewels of early Donovan; yet, ode of epic Celtic, cryptic, mysterious, full of wonder awe and the like -- oooh, treasure and it doth rock prog unto us in our eareth it hath bloomed the flower, earth to seed to evermore

  • Justin Hayward has a great voice, but I can't say I like most of his tunes. This one didn't click for me. Give me somthing less upbeat by this guy and I usually like it. "Nights in White Satin" is probably my fav by him, my other is "Somthing Evil, Somthing Dangerous" - a tune that's almost impossible to find. His Darker tunes are the ones I like and his voice seems to come out more on those slow ominous tunes. Justin Hayward and The Moody Blues has always been hit or miss for me...mostly miss.
