A dance of Josephine Baker from the movie "Princess TamTam" (1935! that's why the sound is not that great ; plus this is where the name of the underwear company is from!).
In this extract, she has been introduced to an important prince as a princess herself and is supposed to act like a noblewoman (that she isn't really). But her love for music, especially drums of her country in the movie (an African one but I don't remember exactly which one) is so strong that she doesn't resist and goes dancing and embarrasses the men who took her to the court for finally having a standing ovation.
I hope it will show you how Beyonce took her inspiration from Josephine's dances and even grimaces but unfortunately I only have pictures of Josephine's grimaces. If someone has any extract where she grimaced...
The extract is in French (my mothertongue language).

  • OMG, what is your problem?! In that time woman weren't alowed to do that stuff, they weren't allowed to show some skin, they truly were sexual frustrated and Josephine changed that. She danced silly, sensual and erotic at the same time, she did something no one had ever seen before. Many woman took and still take her as a roll model. Please stop irritating people who do love her. btw for a table dancer.. she was pretty rich

  • I don't understand why your so hateful. What the hell did Josephine Baker do to you that you have to leave mean, rude, sexist comments that clearly tried to make this world a better place regardless if she danced nude or not.

  • domage qu'elle ne se soit pas desabillée davantage ,parceque la joséphine elle en avait a montrer a ces blaireaux de l'époque!

  • Enjoyable clip that shows her intense exuberance (if not her skill as a dancer). Baker was one hell of an amazing woman, on many levels beyond mere entertainment. The kind of person that comes along maybe once every 100 years or so.

  • @IcolossusPSN your toopid and very american and not in a good way

  • This woman was not overrated. She was over-hated. Don't get it twisted. That is real trance dancing, not the MTV video generation 1-2 step booboo!

  • So, I just took some pictures of a lovely lady's autographed picture and wanted to find out who she was. I fell in love, and that was two hours ago. Overrated? Don't think so, i didn't even know who she was.

  • Dig it!

  • Josephine Baker was a gorgeous human being...those of us who loved her and the world is richer because of her

  • Esta negra era una verdadera salvaje y muy adelantada a su tiempo, medio loca pero divina....

  • She's was incredibly beautiful

  • She looks kinda like one on my aunties -lol- she was so beautiful
