Key would not turn forward to start the car. I had to remove the steering wheel to drill out the metal button holding the key and tumbler set in. Normally, you can turn the key to start and insert a long rod upwards through the hole on the lower side of the steering column to press the button which releases the key and tumbler. Since my key would not turn forward, I had to take the steering wheel off to fix it.

  • For the comment below, renting tools at Auto Zone or Advanced Auto is a purchase and you return them for a full refund otherwise they would not see many tools coming back. This tool was "rented" aka bought and returned for $20, plus $1.50 to replace the bolt.

  • Just do the job already and stop explaining every little detail of you life.

  • dont do the same thing as this guy and bang a bolt screwed into where your steering wheel goes with a hammer. really, just take everything he says with caution, though it is a good video of the inside of the steering wheel.

4:15 "i think this is a ground...?? or something? im not sure exactly...."

plastic doesnt make a good ground buddy, you make me look like a genius.

but kudos to you besides for doing it yourself and making a video, even if you broke a peice off, you are learning.

  • You could have taken it in and had it replaced for free. There is a recall!
