The Ecuadorian President has appointed out lesbian politician Carina Vance Mafla to the position of Health Minister. Her first piece of business will be to shut down all the church-backed 'lesbian cure clinics' in the country.

The International HIV & AIDS Alliance have announced major cuts in grants for next year. Latin America faces a huge crisis due to the cuts which have been blamed on drops in donations around the world.

The Finnish electorate are in the midst of a presidential campaign, with one of the two main contenders being gay. Pekka Haavisto for the Green League gained 18.8% of the vote in round one, against Sauli Niinisto, who won 37%.

Randy Phillips, the US Airman who came out to his father on YouTube, has announced that he's joining the annual LifeCycle fundraiser this year. He hopes to raise $10,000 so visit aidslifecycle.org and pledge your support.

And finally, Thatcher biopic, 'The Iron Lady' has been nominated for 2 Oscars at this year's Academy Awards ceremony. Meryl Streep is up for Best Actress, of course, and the film has also been nominated for Best Make-Up.
