The good of the many does outweigh the good of the few, or the one, but that in of itself doesn't give the many the right to trample on the rights of the one. Individual rights were always held to be immutable in Star Trek. Further if you look at the scenarios where the good of the many were placed above the good of the one, the one had a duty they assumed to protect the many. Spock sacrificing himself to repair the Enterprise, Troi ordering Geordi to repair the ship in her test.

60% wealthy, my ass! You ARE the ignoramus. Do you even know what it really is/means to be 'definitively' wealthy by Western standards? I ACTUALLY was in the 2 different branches of the military and have a brother who currently is a Major in the U.S. army. Although it doesn't take a fricken genius to find the CURRENT (& previous/older) pay grades & corresponding rates. Wealthy - you are out of your mind, get a clue dude.

Spoken like a true ignoramus. I work with military 90% of them are not poor, 60% of them are wealthy & the 10% that are poor have health insurance & all the comforts of home (TV, Satellite TV, Internet, desk top, laptop, Droid phone, DVDR's Refrigerator/ freezer, stove, microwave ovens, play Station, X-box & everything needed to keep their little home clean safe). So don't give me that poor shit! You don't know what a real poor person has.

I think you are misjudging Spock, he said "the NEEDS of the many outweigh the needs of the few" not the WILL of the many.

THIS. IS. Star Trek. This is Roddenberry's vision. Sure, the odd action sequence is nice, but this is the heart and soul of Star Trek. I wish those controlling the license today could understand this and instill the new films (and any future series) with this level of analogical content.

The needs of the one outweight the needs of the many. Kirk is a superiour philosopher to Spock. If the indivdual is protected the many are protected, if the indivdual is in danger, everyone is in danger.
