These zebrafish embryos have two transgenes. The first transgene (green fluorescent protein) is attached to the Fli start codon. The Fli gene creates proteins exclusively in the endothelium. The fluorescent protein is consequently added to endothelial tissue, namely blood vessel lining and endocardium. The second transgene (red fluorescent protein) is attached to the Gata start codon. Since the Gata gene codes for a hemoglobin-related protein, the fluorescent protein is attached to red blood cells.
