The retailer has dressed 27 streetside windows of its Oxford Road flagship store with a "play theme", featuring dolls with large paper mache heads, intended to "awake the child within".
But the decorations have infuriated Frank Sidebottom fans, who claim the chain has stolen the late entertainer's image.
Chris Sievy, the comedian behind the icon Frank Sidebottom character, died in June following a short battle with cancer, aged 54.
It is believed that Selfridges did not contact a representative from Mr Sievy's estate prior to the creation of the window displays.
