Once a year in the Caribbean this 100 year old+ organ grinder with coded cardboard notes is brought out and played on the street New Year's Eve - Latest addition was an electric air compressor as the owners are too old to pump the bellows. Calypso music or Reggae

  • This is a large organ grinder, probably French. Extremely popular in Cuba's easternmost province of Oriente, primarily in the towns of Manzanillo and Bayamo. At the height of its popularity, 1920s-1950s, they were used for holidays and patron festivals. The type of music is hard to pin-point, due to the regional aspect of the music. The organ is versatile and can be used for a variety of Cuban msical types. This is most probably 'Son Montuno' or 'Son Guajiro". Thank you for posting!

  • Organo Oriental. Probably from Cuba.

    And definitely not Reggae.
