Eduardo Galeano recounts the life and death of Alan Turing, the father of the modern computer. After pleading guilty to the "crime and sickness" of homosexuality, Touring was forced to undergo medical "cures" which prompted his tragic suicide.

Eduardo Galeano is the author of the Memory of Fire Trilogy, Open Veins of Latin America, Soccer in Sun and Shadow, and many other works. Born in Montevideo, in 1940, Galeano lived in exile in Argentina and Spain for many years before returning to Uruguay. His work has inspired popular and classical music composers from all over the world. He was the recipient of the first Lannan Prize for Cultural Freedom. He has just been awarded "The Outstanding Citizen of the South," a new prize awarded by the Common Market of the South.

Very Touching... every time I see Apple's logo, i remember the original rainbow colors and think about Turings tragic history.

I actually read he was very fond of Disney's original Snowwhite and the Seven Dwarfs (saw the movie several times) and hence would have gotten the idea of the poisoned apple.

truly heartbreaking that a man of turings genius was treated in this way. i honestly believe it is one of the most shameful acts in our country's history. i find it ironic that we now talk about turing on these machines when without him there would be no computers. he shaped our world into what it is now and should be recognised as a real architect of our world today.

Very moving, we should never judge or interfere with a consenting adult's sex life, whether they are married, single, heterosexual or homosexual. It was one of the most shameful episodes in British history that this man was physically and psychologically abused by the British authorities.
