@BeyondBodyAndSoul I also don't know the plot of said musical, but it sounds like a younger girl left him and he is having a major moment of self-hatred/doubt - maybe even a bit suicidal - check out the lyric "you better put that thing down, shaving is all you're gonna do". Which definitely has the poignancy you describe, without making a big drama of it. : ). And yeh, someone is trying to get in and is knocking : ). Two years' delay between your comments and this one, how about that?

@atarasti ... I know what you mean! I still have my original cast album!! I went with my boyfriend, a jazz musician to the Broadway show. As we entered, we both spotted MVP at the back of the theatre. We caught his eye and he looked and 'nodded' to us. That was 40 years ago......

He's in the bathroom that is shared by several tenants in this particular Harlem apartment house. The character (played by Joe Fields) is talking to himself in the bathroom mirror. He's upset by being ignored by a 'pretty young thing' from the neighborhood:)

Re to: your info window.
Your landlord beyond...
For their sake i hope it isn't a landlady.
Cause that's a pretty rough description.Lol...
Is he in the restroom telling us that he was just quit by his girl or something...and someone is also upsetting him by knocking...
Pardon... i wanted to understand his
Definitely different.

I think you are right about the situation being presented in this vignette. However, I don't have the full context as I am not completely familar with the broadway musical of the same name. I will say that there is always an underlying poignancy to much of MVP's work...his description of my landlord aside.
