Bullet tests on the .308 Winchester. 150gr Barnes TTSX, 180gr. Barnes TSX, 165 Nosler Ballistic Tip, 180gr Nosler Partition, 150gr Hornady Spire Point. The 150gr. TTSX and 180gr TSX were the best with the 180 Partition. For deer the rest work just fine at .308 velocities.

  • Excellent vid, keep up the good work. In the past, I have used the Hornady 180 grain in .30-06 to ensure two holes on deer. One hole going in and one coming out. I have never recovered a bullet ever with the 180's. I have used on a couple occasions the Hornady 165 and they performed perfectly. Thanks for all you hard work.

  • @deerwhacker7 Thanks for the kind words and for watching. I think we worry too much about velocity and not enough about accuracy and getting closer to our prey.

  • I did similar tests with 6.8 spc. Barnes 110 triple shock won; huge wound channel and 22" penetration. About the same as your 150 .308 results. Also tried Sierra 110g pro hunters. Approx. 15" penetration and bullets fragmented. I'm interested in trying Lazzeroni .308 150g in my M1A(available at midway), they're very similar to triple shocks but appear better in every way.

  • @tony55752 Thanks for watching. The 6.8 spc. looks pretty good. Seriously thinking about an XCR in one. Unfortunately Midway will not ANYTHING north of the border so that ammo will be a no go.

  • Great video! Would you suggest the 150 grain TTSX or the 180 grain TSX? Thank you!

  • @Muchacho64 Whichever shoots best in your rifle. Both will do the job on just about anything in North America.

  • @Glockster42 Speaking of velocity, would be nice to have a penetration test with a .300 Remington Ultra Mag with a 200 grain Barnes @ 3,100 fps. I would like to see the potential wound channel for this round.

  • One bullet really doesn't tell you anything because there's variability from shot to shot. You probably need to shoot about 5 of each and take a mean penetration. Also, penetration isn't everything; it all depends on what you're hunting. There's a big difference between a cape buffalo and a whitetail. Too stout of a bullet would just zip right through a deer and not do much, while a semi-frangible bullet wouldn't get deep enough on a buff.

  • Great info!

    Thank you

  • @freestylmx311 Thanks for watching.
