After using only a dinky (yeah, right) digital recorder for over 2 1/2 years, I finally upgraded my equipment with an external microphone. :)

The two microphones I tried out are $26 and $37 U. S., respectively (forgot to mention that).

At the time I made this presentation, I hadn't done a *true* 'field test' on the microphone I ended up keeping, as the only thing I could say is that it cuts down on wind interference/background crap quite a bit, which is a good thing. However, I have since used it for all of the E. V. P. recordings in the cemetery part of my following "E. V. P.s from a large cemetery, post office (?)" vid, which at the end I included a clip where you could tell a bit of a difference from when I had the external mic plugged in, then unplugged. So I definitely recommend getting one to cut down on background noise and wind if you get that from recording.

Also includes E. V. P. that I recorded in November, 2009 at the end.

  • Question: if it picks up noises from so far away, how can you know for sure that there was nobody around in the entire perimeter at the time the EVP was recorded? (just an innocent question- I don't mean that in a put-down sort of way)

  • 'Cuz I say into the recorder 'that was just a kid', or whatever it was, when I hear it with my own ears. Cuts down on mistakes that way, especially since, at times, you can't listen to recordings to weeks later sometimes (or that happens to ME at least) and you're not going to remember everything that happened all that time later.

That stuff ends up on the 'digital cutting room floor' (as I call it :) ) and no one ends up hearing it, since it's not 'legit' (to the best of my knowledge).

  • I just love new toys :)

    How ya been, T?

So from what you're saying those other guys said that the digi-recorder only picks up stuff close by (though obviously is doesn't!) that means the source of some of your evps would have be pretty damn close to you during recording!! 8-o

  • (laughs wildly) EXACTLY! New toys!!

I tell ya, you feel DAMN important carrying that around! Only one of the few small drawbacks is that when you're used to a digital recorder *only*, it's a bit heavy!

Yeah good point, I had someone jump to the conclusion that I was accusing them of faking an E. V. P. when I just made a comment saying it sounded like it was close to the mic. Huh? What, all E. V. P.s are 15 feet away? 20? That made no sense...

I'm ok atm, hope you are too :)

  • Thanks, yep, not much difference as far as voice goes. However it does cut down on wind noise, which that alone makes it worth it's price, I think. Hopefully I can do a REAL field test of it within a month at a location or two :)

The atr-55 sounds interesting (I just looked up a few reviews), at about $20 more than this mic. Supposedly the best ones are to be found at recording studios...at $500 a pop! (Urk! Pass!)
