If altitude was such a huge factor, then how come no one else in the 1968 games came close to what Beamon jumped?

I remember watching this on television. There was a delay before the result showed. Then they flashed the 890 on the little revolving kiosk. "That can't be what he jumped. That must be the number on his jersey."

He said 21 3/4 inches further than any one ever, it appears that the illustrator doesn't know anything about inches. The English, Bad Teeth! Face!

No one else came close to his performance because it started to rain shortly after Beamon's jump. Still it was an amazing jump as the estimated advantage of wind and altitude is 31cm (12.2 in.) and he broke the WR by 55 cm (21.75 in.).

5% is a lot man:) Think about it, 5%x8m = 40cm.
I think it couldn't have added anything more than 1% actually. The speed of a human is way to low for the aerodynamic drag (and hence the difference in it due to the 2000m altitude) to be significant
