Here is the 3rd movement of La Catedral, Augustin Barrios Mangore's masterful work. According to the notes accompanying the music, this movement represents the city streets after exiting the cathedral. If you listen to the 2nd movement and the 3rd movement together, you see the contrast of inside and outside clearly. The 2nd movement is reverential and solemn, whereas the 3rd starts quickly and has scales and arpeggios running all over the place. I think he did an incredibly good job of putting the two different moods to music.

This is quite a tough piece and I don't consider it finished by far. Hopefully next year, I'll post something more solid and expressive. I hope, for now, that it is appreciated on some levels.

  • Excellent performance of a very difficult piece. Personally, I prefer to play Allegro Solemne like a hooligan (listen to Barrios' 1928 recording on Youtube and you'll know what I mean), but I like this more controlled flowing version aswell. Keep it up!

  • Yeah, I've heard that recording. Supposedly, he did it so fast and crazy because of the limitations in recording equipment of the day, ie., he had to go fast enough for it to fit on the record!

    Thanks for listening!

    Best,

ty very much its very much appreciated..:]

  • Hi there. Thanks for commenting. I've played guitar since I was 12, but classical for about 4-5 years. For the question, I'd imagine we have the same notes, but just a different fingering. I start on the D on the 10th fret. Perhaps, you're just in the lower register...

  • Great performance!

  • Thank you!!! Have a great day!

  • VERY GOOD performance Excellent PICE

  • admiro a todos los guitarristas...(de guitarra clasica y estudiados cabe aclarar) jajaj no se como pueden hacer todas esas cosas con los dedos yo en una guitarra soy basura jajaj (toco piano) ... felicidades

  • I experienced the same thing. The key is to move your left hand such that the fingertips are as perpendicular to the fretboard as possible, and let your thumb find an unstrained and comfortable position up or down the neck. Trust me, this makes a HUGE differences!!!

  • one of the most aburdly difficult tunes I know - my right hand usually freezes about halfway. Cool perfomance!

  • thx for the advice

  • I'm learning this song and my thumb from my left hand hurts like hell after playing the first 2 lines. Any advice on how to prevent that?

  • amazing, as always.
