Amtrak Auto Train in Florida and MORE. HiDef 2010

HiDef footage of Amtrak Auto Train & CSX in Sanford Florida. On Sunday, November 14, 2010, my dad and I went to Sanford to catch Amtrak Auto Train and some other trains.

Highlights:
00:00 CSX OUC coal train with GE ES44AH's #846 & #848 departing Sanford Florida south to the power plant after a crew change. Behind the train is the Conrad Yelvington rock plant. In the foreground is where the old Sanford passenger station once stood.
02:40 Amtrak Auto Train PO53 ducks under I-4. PO53 just happened to have engine 53 on the point today! Arrived at 8:45am, quite a bit earlier than the 9:30am posted time.
02:51 Amtrak Auto Train makes it around the mini-forest where tracks for Rand Yard once stood. Rand, once an important yard on the A-Line, is now a shell of its former self.
04:26 Auto Train snakes its way into the terminal. Note the brand new Passenger station which opened in October 2010. AT had 16 superliners & 24 auto rack cars for a total of 40 cars that day.
08:09 P32BWH switcher no. 504 connects to the auto racks and pulls them into the terminal.
10:31 Amtrak Silver Star lead by engine no. 124 pulls thru Sanford, ontime, about 20 minutes after Auto Train clears the line. Time was about 9:20am.

11:55 Bonus footage of Amtrak Silver Star, PO92 in Taft Florida seen on October 2010 with Engine 53 again! Those engines hang pretty close on rotation!

Is that OUC coal train a regular Sunday delievery? I am determined to catch a train on the Stanton lead. Thanks!

@cflRailfan The coal train is a regular daily train but doesn't appear at the same time everyday. Most freight traffic on the a-line follows an unpredictable pattern as far as time of day goes. If you have a scanner and ATCS monitor it makes railfanning the area a little bit more bearable. I don't really railfan this line much because of its low traffic :(

What type of camera do you use to film?

@Mcjimmy16 i use a canon hv30. It uses minidv tape to record on.

Why do they use the wide cab for switching? If I was amtrak I would use it for service!

@Rtchugg Amtrak doesn't use the P32BWH widecab's much for road service anymore for a couple of reasons. 1. they are the oldest diesel road engines of the fleet 2. They have the least hp of the road engines in service. 3. There are enough P42DC's and stimulus P40DCs active that they are not necessary. Sometimes you can still find them in road service tho...

Awesome Video. stars. I ve been to the very site you just filmed . I caught 52 leaving 20 early. You sold me on your camera. The zoom lens is exceptional. That yard is over a mile and ahalf long. Again , I cant thank you enough for filming. Keep up the great work.
