  • how do you make a diorama of an airfield with an f-14 and f-18 1/48 scale

  • @cgpaintball That's a very small scale. I think I would just use a the tarmac paint shown in the video without adding sand or any media to it and then weather it with small cracks and dust. If you are building the actual landing strip part of the runway, don't forget to add some marks where the tires touch down (the black marks).

  • good tutorial. two thumbs up.

  • Thanks. I guess I'll have to do more dioramas. I still can't get the pieces I need to work on my cars.

  • Thanks for the vid very cool!!

  • Thanks for the rating and glad I could help!!!

  • thks

  • great tutorial

  • ok well the video is up. please rate and comment hope it helps:)

  • Fantastic!!! Attach your vid when it's done in a response to this vid. It'll definitely be a wealth of info. Looking forward to it. Keep up the good work.

  • i think im gonna try several methods to simulate the wear. including applying some paint thiner and dabbing it off with a cloth. or spraying it with testors dullkote. let me try some stuff and i'll tell ya how it goes and what worked best. im trying to get a video on here soon to go thru all these steps:)

  • I wonder if you used the tarmac paint from woodland scenics, that was used in the video, if that would look more aged? It dries to a nice weathered dark gray. It worked great for me. Or I wonder what would happen if you tried to sand it flat. Would that dull up the finish to the color needed? Then you could use the flat black to represent car tire travel. Just a thought. I'll make sure to mention to everyone to look at your comments about this on the next vid. Thanks for the help and ideas!!!

  • now we just have to figure out how to make it look wore on the tarmac, because this method makes a finished product like new asphalt. also be sure to use only flat black:)

  • ok so this is how it turned out after much expiermentation. i used rust-oleum flat black primer in a little can. using some $2.97 walmart play sand i mixed a ratio of 3 parts sand one part paint. i apllied it to a single ply carboard and a corrugated cardboard. the latter of which is the best tho. i tried applying white glue to the carboard b4 the sand. and 1 peice without. it does'nt really matter if you do or dont. 1 problem i had was getting it completly even and flat, but it looks great!!

  • If you're talking about using just sand and paint it would work, just have to make sure it dried throughly or paint then apply the sand and push it into the wet paint, allow to dry, shake off the excess and paint over the sand. I thought about using sand, but I thought it might be a bit too small. That's why I used the railroad buff, as it's called. Right now I'm working on the next video project, so please let me know the results so I can let everyone else know on the video.

    Thanks.

  • i was thinking of an idea that might work... what if you took play sand and added black craft paint and stirred, apply, thne press with a large peice of cardboard. tell me whatcha think, and if i try it b4 you. i'll let ya know how turns out.
