I used to be one of those guys... I still have the card our Commander back then gave us saying we were excused from shaving until he said otherwise. My first unit. I still carry the lessons I learned there with me and I try to pass them on to my soldiers.

@jpb252 I salute your son's service. Pathfinder's of C Co. 1/509 also fought first Gulf War. A and B Co. continued trng mission at JRTC(Ft. Chaffee back then)when I was a member. A and B were ordered to deploy Dec '90 but ground war ended before deployment. In 2004 half of Bn deployed to Iraq, other half stayed for OPFOR mission. I've followed 509th over the years and was happy to see 3rd Bn reactivated, they've done a great job and am as proud of their accomplishments as 1st Bn. Airborne!

@SnowboundinNH I'll take your word for it. I just know that the 1/509th is now the OPFOR at JRTC at Fort Polk. My son was in the 3/509th at Fort Richardson and deployed to Iraq from SEP 06 - DEC 07 (their deployment got extended 3 months). They've been to Afghanistan since then, too. Can't help giving the 1/509th a little ribbing (a matter of family pride), but they're all "G men".

@jpb252 ....1/509 was deployed to Iraq in 2004-2005, before 3/509 was reactivated.
