by an unknown maker (possibly Mukle of Neukirch) playing eight unknown tunes.
The thirty-nine pipes were missing when I found it in 1985, so all of them had to be reconstructed (using the holes in the windchest and the note names on the keyframe as a clue)

  • How are there so many tunes on one drum?

  • The tunes are arranged spirally (to make room for a really long tune of, say, eight revolutions)

or between each other, then the barrel (or key frame) is moved one eighth of the key distance.

Most common number of tunes is eight.

  • How old do you suppose black forest flute clocks are in general?

  • 1780-1850.

  • Yes, and I had to replace a lot of broken pins and bridges, too!

  • Amazing. Thank you very much sir.

  • A masterful restoration!

  • Wow, great job replacing all the missing pipes. Sounds pretty much as I would expect it to. Must have been a real treat to hear it play the first time.
