And what about when they renact what really happened when the real Mrs swaps herself for the dark headed girl that killed the brother by the gate. The dark headed girl is seen falling onto the spiked fence landing on her back. But...when Paul MacGanning (?) picks up his wife and drops the dark-headed girl on the ground there is no puncture wounds in the dark headed girls back!!! Whoooopppsie. hahaha.

The murder in the 80s really ruins the episode for me. Its not believable that they would kill him just because there is a 10s struggle to pry the keys off him and he poses no threat to them at all!

What a cheap wrap-up. Instead of connecting elements established earlier on, there's suddenly all kinds of new information to 'explain' things.

@MintyInTheSky It's what's known in the mystery-writing business as a "red herring." I'm doubtful that the event ever really happened; it was probably the girl's subconscious way of blocking the real incident.
They were injecting some sort of antibiotics, or vitamins, or something to keep the tree healthy.

Thank you for posting all these. I have now watched every Jonathan Creek episode ever made, and If I ever find the dvd box set in a store, I'll definitely be springing for it. I LOVE Alan Davies.
But now, despite previously disliking the character, I hope they do bring back Caroline Quentin for a special. It would be SO great to see her interacting with 'Jonathan' again-- and maybe there'd be a new dynamic there, what with both of the characters having time apart to grow.

Well, this was...interesting. The framed murder itself was clever, despite the number of things that could have gone wrong. But what was the point of the house facade bit? And what on earth were those two injecting into that tree? o.O

If JC gets another special, they should bring Maddy back just for the hell of it. It would make a lot of fans happy.

I thought it was a deliberate mistake to have the murder set in the 1980s and yet have some very obvious close up shots of a digital car stereo from 2010?!
