"Foggy Mountain Breakdown" is is a Grammy award winning bluegrass composition by Flatt and Scruggs, added in 2004 to the Library of Congress "National Recording Registry". It is considered by many to be the acid-test for any banjo player.

IMHO, Joe Maphis kills in this version, playing BOTH fiddle and banjo parts on double-neck Mosrite better than anyone. Take a listen.

  • Thank you, Zen, for weighing in. I stumbled across Joe playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown on a blue grass collection and have been a fan ever since. It must have been special to have played with him.

  • Joe Maphis was one of a kind. There are a few video clips of him on YT, but only a couple are decent quality.
