I can think of other things too. I would love to see a household system that allows the household people to see a breakdown of the usage of each power outlet in the house. Since most people don't move their tv, microwave, toaster chords around to different outlets everyday they'd fast become educated about their usage, wastage and financial cost of electricity.

further more there is alot more to it than that. IF you cut off the lights for the kids you teach them a few things that I'm only realising now. One: lights require alot of electricity. Two: using them during daytime is always unneccessary if there is a window nearby. Three: I'm stuck in this habit I've learned as a kid to use lights at daytime when it's bright enough without them. It's costing money and wasting electricity. And if I'm in this habit so too is everyone else.

  • you know how schools can really reduce their power consumption ?

    turn the fucking lights off!

As much as heating is bad, lights are probably worse in a school environment.

If you actually turned off the lights, opened the curtains you'd find its just as bright if not brighter especially in summer during the daytime.

One light uses 60-100 watts, school lights I don't know. I just remember thinking why the fuck are all these lights on for? It's unneeded...
