In her big-screen adaptation of Shakespeare's mystical thriller "The Tempest," Academy Award-nominated Julie Taymor ("Across the Universe," "Frida," "Titus") brings an original dynamic to the story by changing the gender of the sorcerer Prospero into the sorceress Prospera, portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren ("The Queen"). Prospera's journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural.

I love Taymor! even though her films are far from perfect she is not afraid of experimentation, her films are always interesting and her passion is clear in all of her films! I'd much rather watch an interesting, innovative film that has some negative aspects than a boring conventional film that doesn't do anything 'wrong'

@ThreeOfHearts1 It works either way. I was in a production of The Tempest before this trailer was even made where we had a female Prospero. Absolutely loved it and I think it is a shame people aren't accepting this version but then again I haven't seen the film yet so I'll have to give it a go soon.
