Sustainable Living at Freedom Cove Float House

This is a completely unique west coast home a half hour by water off Tofino, BC, floating in the wilderness. This float house is 100% sustainable and the people who live here, Catherine and Wayne Adams, live off the land year round. They have built practically every part of their house with their own artistic and creative touch. Both Catherine and Wayne are artists and they refer to their float home and gardens as an on going evolving art project. Just awesome. The way things are going (at least here in the US) at any moment a fully armed representative of an over-funded, paranoid branch of the military will be rolling up on your little paradise, haul you off in chains then sink it just for fun. All to keep you safe from terrorists of course. Hang tight in there guys! you might be one of the few that ride out the coming collapse.

Hello from across the Georgia Strait on Powell Lake. We live almost full time on a float cabin up the lake. It is much smaller but we have a floating garden. I am intrigued by your greenhouse. How do you keep it from getting damaged in the winds. Our place gets hit pretty hard during winter storms. - Margy

Hi Margy, this is a message from Catherine : we use 10ml plastic,use wood strips nailed down over the plastic every 15inches or so,keep the greenhouse low... ours are about 7ft. high and we also have created wind breaks around our greenhouses.
