Touhou 12 - Undefined Fantastic Object - Extra Clear

It's always nice being able to clear Extra just a few hours after getting a hold of the game. This run in particular happens to be my second clear.

To start off, I think that this might be the first Windows Extra Stage without aimed streaming attacks (unless you count those yin yang orbs that charge into you). Kind of weird. Either way, the stage is still familiar territoriy aside for the occasional bullet spam. All of it can be tackled without the use of UFOs though, and I've done it before in previous failed clears. Too bad this isn't one of them, because as you can see, my stage performance in this run absolutely sucks. Died twice, bombed thrice. Could have done a lot better, but I couldn't really care less :P

Kogasa is, for the most part, simple stuff. Mike and Ike spam is easy, and her wheel of lasers is also fine aside for the fact that they materialize really fast. Her second card is quite fun to read.

Nue isn't anything spectacular. Her noncards are a bit more difficult than the average noncards you find in other Extras, but on the other hand, most of her spell cards involve either simple tricks or really easy dodging. The battle as a whole is very similar in feel to Koishi, so if you enjoyed SA's Extra, then you'll probably like this.

Can't say that I'm fond of a lot of her attacks, but I will say that her bubble noncard is great. ZUN needs to make more bubble patterns. Most memorable thing about her battle is easily the timeout card, of which is a blast to play.

11/13 captures in total (messed up Nue's 8th card pretty bad, and I nervous-bombed her final card when I didn't need to). Probably won't be redoing this stage, so don't expect a perfect/no deaths run. I'm pretty much uploading this just so I can be one of the first to have it on YouTube :P

Also, special thanks to Krim for basically showing me how to do Nue's 2nd card. I'm not sure why, but I tend to have a problem with figuring out simple misdirect patterns.

You can capture it entirely via vertical movement while focused. I'm actually not too good at reading the direction of the bullets though, so I tend to also use horizontal and no-focused movement in order to offset any error in my (bad) choices.

out of ten what would you give this extra stage in terms of difficulty and fun?

Rather than giving numerical ratings, I'll say that its fun is somewhere around average. Its difficulty is far closer to the newer Extras than the older ones, so if you found Suwako and Koishi easy, then Nue will be easy as well.

@randallreynolds I usually move in circles counterclockwise, passing through a curtain, then down and right to buy me time to spot the gap in the next curtain, then pass through the next, etc. However, I hate the three spells of Kogasa Tatara and I usually bomb-rush them. A tip: if you try to collect bombs instead of lives with the UFOs of this stage, you can get 3 or 4 extra bombs, enugh to play safe and reach Nue with most of your lives intact.
