The government was at a loss today to explain the deaths of thousands of cattle at the Kenya Meat Commission ranch in Athi River. The deaths of the animals mainly purchased under the ongoing drought offtake program was exclusively exposed by Citizen Tv yesterday, a situation that forced the government into a damage control mode, with Livestock Minister Mohamed Kuti saying the situation was unavoidable since most of the purchased animals were going to die anyway due to drought. Kuti explained that deaths of the animals after they had been purchased by the government was a huge relief to farmers who would have incurred major losses.
