  • @manaman545... Hi Lee, can I share some memories with you. When a few of my Uncles, Authur, Billy, Buddy and my dad, Herbert, had gotten together, which wasn't to oftend, started to kanikapila...and the music, not only Hawaiian, was so full of aloha that you had to stop doing what ever you were doing to listen and enjoy...Till this day, I can still hear them laughing, watching them swapping instruments, and just having fun. i hope there be others willing to upload so that all can hear!!!!

  • @kalahewlen Kala, now those sound like some treasured memories! Aloha, Lee.

  • I'm so happy that someone had shared this video for all to see and hear!!! I've only saw my Uncle Billy play at family parties when I was a small kid. His sound on the steel guitar will live forever...

    Aloha,

    William "Kala" Hew Len

  • @kalahewlen Hi Kala, well ive long been an admirer of your Uncle, as are many, love his playing, and he always seems to be having such a good time. Lee.

  • Oh wow is this ever swell! Great music. Billy on the steel is amazing! I've seen a video of him with Aunty Genoa dem. Love the white pants and white shoes. I thought only men in Cleveland wore that. Called the "full Cleveland" look. Mahalo for posting this.

  • I loved watching that on PBS.... I wish they would play it again... that is truly a missed treasure!!! My grandfather had recorded it.. .but alas... the fate of the VHS lol. My favorite on that recording was when Uncle Sonny sang Kaula'ili and his Aunt danced the hula!!! oh the memories of the old parties growing up... yes... i'm only 33... but i still remember our kupuna when they would get up to dance like that lol.. mahalo for sharing.

  • priceless, big mahalo

  • @kalahewlen..... Bill Kauaihilo once told me that when he was growing up with Sony they were working on the farm together, and one day sonny said Hey bill lets go and sing and be famous! and Bill said no thanks I want to eat and not be poor! LOL He still loves and talks about Sony! Aloha!

  • Maika`i no. Mahalo for posting.

  • Beautiful*****

  • correction....pedal steel is a Fender 400 ...single neck blonde 4 to 8 pedals...used cables and had temperature compensation so was very immune to going out of tune

  • at 1:21 you can see Billy is playing an old Fender 500 one of the first pedal steels that came out ...my Dad Chick Hansen played one in Ky. in 50's...Henry Allen, Maui steel master once told me Billy Hew Len would just pick the whole pedal steel up after a gig and stick all in one piece into his station wagon rather than dismantle it....just great video....thanks

  • oh my gosh! howd you get this footage??!! IM FOREVER IN LOVE!

    Mahalo, Shylah

  • My goodness.Myra English with Sonny and Billy Hew preforming in a non overproduced setting.Just natural sound LIVE.This is Heaven
