On the 25th August 2008, a ballast train was run between Brooklyn and Lake Boga, on the Swan Hill Railway by El Zorro. Motive power was SRHC's T357, and SRV's T356. FTI's camera captured the train at various points between Woodend and Lake Boga (the lake itself being totally dry due the drought - hence "Dust Bowl"). We hope you enjoy this presentation.

  • Thanks for posting.

Nice to hear the level crossing signal bell. What is that extra light on the signal?

Turn the camera and show the back of the train as it moves away.

Show crossing signals just before activation and being activated and then deactivating after the train clears.

Show train signals and operation, show the switch being changed, etc.

Repetitive views of justrains approaching and rolling by out of view gets boring.

  • @robertgift You're welcome, thanks for the "tips." I now have one for you, if you're bored with our videos, simply don't watch them:) Cheers.

  • @FlamingTrashInc How can one know until one watches it!

So many are the same: Wow! here cames a train down a track. Same repetitive boring stuff.

    Show other things, too.

A friend videoed UP844 coming down the track.

I videoed it at a grade crossing, Gothe signal activation and timing, gothe bells and lights and gate action, then captured 844's whistle. His video was boring in comparison. No whistle and no stack noise.

  • @robertgift Good stuff, we hope you'll enjoy more of our videos. Please forgive the lack of things that interest you personally, we don't produce videos for one person:)

  • @FlamingTrashInc Its not just me. Several railroad people here have noted how boring nothing butrains approaching and rolling by is. What good is 4:00 when cars rolling by are a blur?

No close-ups. No interesting details. No signals working. Justhe same repetitive scenes.

What did the driver hand to the guy who threw the switch? Why was switch not ALREADY thrown so train need not stop? Why not show switch being thrown? Why no clickity-clack? Have everything buthe smell!

  • @robertgift I didn't get the signal operating at Dingee, I was on the phone at the time. No other signals are worth filming. No clickety-clack due to the rails being welded. Unfortunately, you will find most of our videos rather boring, as you have already stated. I apologise for this video not being up to your exacting standards, but most of our viewers seem happy with our efforts. As for the safeworking at the siding, ask the signalman. I have no idea why they did things in that sequence.
