The title of Jason L. Riley's new book helps explain why it has proven so controversial: Let Them In: The Case for Open Borders.
Let Them In is as exhaustively researched as it is eminently readable, Riley, a member of The Wall Street Journal's editorial board runs through all the anti-immigration arguments at play in today's heated political world—and finds them wanting.
Riley sat down earlier this summer with reason.tv's Nick Gillespie to discuss the leading myths about the causes and effects of immigration.
Mexico's government is upset that too many gringos are entering Mexico illegally and having enormous birth rates. This puts a lot of strain on the school system. The gringos do not pay enough in taxes to provide for all the services . There have been protest by Mexican citizens against these illegal gringo immigrants. But the gringos call the Mexicans racist and evil. This leaves the Mexican citizens frustrated and angry. Its not fair.

@peacesher They manufacture their products in a more business friendly country where it's not the case that 65% of the pop either pays no income taxes or receives handouts; and where the productive don't support the nation, receive less benefits, and get dragged through the mud.
How bigoted to say Americans deserve jobs more than foreigners who are typically harder working. Where do you think engineers and doctors are coming from: India and China, and not a country full of entitled, lazy idiots.

@madhoyden That's basically an argument against subsidized health care.

obviously not a Californian, where we currently spend approximately 19 billion for illegal benefits, most for education, medical care, welfare & incarceration. It is a myth that they contribute more than they take & that they cannot qualify for benefits. As soon as they have an anchor baby, it is entitled to EVERYTHING that any citizen gets. Education alone costs roughly 8K per year. NO illegal alien is paying 8K per year to the state in taxes. We are drowning in great part due to this.

I'm from Hong Kong myself and despite his comment about HK, HK is actually quite strict on immigration especially immigrants from mainland China who had been blamed for bankrupting the subsidized hospital system (44 out of 100 births in HK are to mainland mothers who went down to HK just to have an "anchor baby"), healthcare and school system.

Why aren't people more concerned about the labor that big corporations export to other countries?! Now these are JOBS that people want! Why should these companies be allowed to bring their products back to the US TAX FREE??!!
That is where Amerians are losing BIG TIME! Most Americans would not take those low-paying, back-breaking illegal immigrant jobs even if they quadrupled the pay!
