All beats in this Tempest video were created solely using the onboard Tr-808 samples.
It took a while to make the sounds.....

  • reaching the hall of fame is no easy task

but we have moved forward form the 80s

and this in my opinion shits on the capabilities of early roland produsts

    oh...and yes I bought my I 909 in 1986 and traded it for a machinedrum in 2011

like I was saying lets move forward rather than letting japanese hall of fame machines dictate our creation

  • I think by samples the OP means "presets". There is no way to load samples into the Tempest. Those drums are synthesised. For those calling the Temptest a toy you need to actually use one to understand how amazing it is. Currently every production source is wetting themselves over the Tempest because it's a beast.

  • hmm what samples?:D the tempest is using analogue circuitry and no samples :)

  • Like... Lots

  • @professorquack You are right. And yet it's so hard to convince some people of this ;-) ha ha We are "Drum Machinists"

  • @GV1UK actually, there ARE usable pack in samples of various drum machines etc. in there. BUT you certainly don't have to use those, because this IS indeed an Analog Drum Synth - that's the point of buying this expensive, amazing machine ;-) See some of my demo vids

  • @professorquack True but I find that alot of artists still feel that having machines that had that MAGICK will somehow improve that creativity.

  • @jazzlicka people still use guitars, pianos flutes. An instrument is just an instrument and not creativity, that comes from the person.

  • the tempest can't load samples (yet, maybe in the future ) , but it does have the 808 samples in it ..loaded into rom

    there you go

  • Keep in mind the Tempest is based around the Evolver voice architechture, which means that each of the 6 voices have 4 OSCs - 2 analogue and 2 digital. The latter of which is loaded with a huge selection of samples, wavetables, noises - you name it - taken from a long range of vintage drummachines (808 and 909 to name just 2) and synths (Prophet VS etc), and loads of other sources.

This IS the closest to an allround vintage-beater, and it's magnificent both as drummachine and as synth.

  • These are SAMPLES.

  • I was really excited for the Tempest before it came out, but I have yet to actually find a video on youtube that has lived up to my expectations. It's certainly not bad by any means, but considering the price and the other drum machines out there, it's not really on my list of "must have" gear. I'd much rather have a Machinedrum UW. If I could ever find a used one at a really good price, I'd consider it, but for now I have my eyes on a MD.
