Just as I'd ask why isn't Porcupine Tree the most popular band in the world? The masses appeal to commercialized, synthetic sounding music; great music isn't appreciated these days. Period.

@rabbitasshole whatever. I'm not an elitist. The thing is, at least where I'M from, you walk outside and most people are fans of taylor swift, lmfao, a day to remember, bruno mars. I don't think you're into that. So there's truth behind what I'm saying: masses, most people...these days people are criticized as hipsters for not being into bullshit that's listed above. I think it's a cop out to avoid confronting one's shitty taste. I can distinguish myself from others without being "hipster".

@zeppelinman4232 Well, maybe not the most popular but it is fairly popular.. by saying 'masses' you aim to put yourself into a bag of 'exceptional, avant-garde, underground' etc, group of people which is still just another 'mass'.. I used to like Wilson when he was more of a musician than entrepreneur..

@zeppelinman4232 Well, then you should listen with more attention to Lady Gaga's music... The Fame Monster EP is a completely different thing in pop. It has a dark and dense concept and you'll find the lyrics are cleverly written. I've always listened to progressive rock/metal and had a certain prejudice against pop music. Gaga changed my vision on it. I know my opinion matters little, but giver her a chance before you say her music is empty.

@jibber102 you've got me wrong. Surprised they don't like PT, but that's ME. Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Bjork, James Blake, Venetian Snares. Great electronic. Most of the time, what is "fun" is shallow and easy in the mainstream. I really love lady gaga as a person, but the only original thing she is doing is creating her own eccentric look. There is no distinctive quality to her music. Usually when an artist uses backup dancers, that's a good indication that there's nothing to the music.

I happen to be a huge fan of prog/melodeath metal bands like Be'Lakor and Persefone, video game soundtrack composers like Kow Otani, and commercialized pop in the form of Gaga and k-pop. I just like it. Just because you deem Porcupine Tree to be great doesn't mean everyone else does. Mainstream music is mainstream because it's fun, and most people like fun. Now I'm going to go listen to SNSD and the Okami soundtrack. Thank you.

Raped the reply button, this band is amazing, I like this mixed style but it can be seen that they come from Porcupine Tree as Porcupine Tree comes from Genesis, Yes and Pink Floyd but each of them has their original approach on the music and a distinguishable style.
