There's only ever been but one person in this whole wide world that's made me feel every range of emotion, from extreme anger and frustration to extreme love and peace. This one person who has the power to serve as facilitator, mediator, peacemaker, troublemaker, and that's on a good day! All this in a package that measures 5-foot-2 and 75 pounds.

That's my one-and-only, that's My Michaela.

Michaela was diagnosed 3 hours after her birth with a left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. She had her hernia repaired when she was 24 hours old, but then she fell into pulmonary hypertension that night. After repeated attempts to calm the PH down, she was put on ECMO, where she remained for 6 days. She spent a total of 26 days in the hospital, the first 10 of which were spent on a high-freq ventilator. She is celebrating her 11th birthday on December 30, 2008. She is a bright, beautiful, talented 5th grader with wisdom far beyond her years. She's an avid animal lover who owns a cow, a miniature stallion, a rabbit, 2 cats, and a German Shepherd/chow puppy.

This video is also dedicated to all Cherubs and their parents and caregivers whose lives have been touched by congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

  • Were you aware it was the 40th anniversary of the JFK assassination when you were in Winchester? I was in Winchester before you were born, on Thursday, May 19, 1966 to see Stonewall Jackson's HQ before going down 522 to Front Royal and Skyline Caverns, then returning for a second night in Martinsburg.

  • I started taking Levodyn because i was keen to bring my blood pressure down without resorting to prescription medicine. i have been taking it for less than 4 weeks but have already noticed a change. Before taking Levodyn my blood pressure was 152/86, it is now 128/76. i am really impressed.

  • lol thats SO SWEEEEEET!!! my name is michaela hey check out my videos!!!!

  • Thank you, John. I'm a supporter of congenital diaphragmatic hernia awareness, being the mother of a survivor, and a huge Frida Lyngstad fan (thus, ABBA). So I've got other things going on besides Keith. Michaela needs a huge chunk of me, and everyone else gets what's left.

  • Thank you on her behalf, Virginia. We had 4 5th graders at our house for a little get-together, 2 girls & 2 boys, and it got a little wild, as you can imagine. She's more of a social butterfly than I was at that age. Heck, I wasn't that socially accepted even at 16!

  • OMG, Andy! Hey there, bud! Hope you're having a great summer so far! If you wanna see a funny video, go check out my video "Our Trip to the Abandoned Turnpike." Dorothy is in it. You'll love it! See ya!

  • Sorry to hear.

I've had PPH for 5 years now. Hope you and my cases will get better :D
