Vernon Wells spent the previous 12 seasons as the centre fielder for the Toronto Blue Jays. At one point, he was annointed as the franchise player! During the latter part of his tenure, he was awarded a lucrative contract with the Blue Jays ($126 million, 7 year contract extension, 2008-2014). In spite of being a 3-time gold glove winner, a 3-time all-star, a 4-time .300 hitter, & a hitter with some power, Wells was at the receiving end of a divided segment of fans who either loved him or criticized him for what they felt was underperformance in relation to his contract!
On January, 21, 2011, Wells' lucrative contract was traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim! The trade also received split reviews!
