Thousands of dead birds were washed up on the shores of Baylys Beach Dargaville New Zealand. It is believed the birds are the broad billed Pryon. These birds commonly feed on plankton. The plankton was broken up due to the storm and the birds subsequently starved to death. They became exhausted and were washed ashore where they died.
