I always thought who wrote these lines was a visionary.

ok, so because of this movie, 'play mortal kombat with your friend in vietnam' is synonymous in my house with online gaming. when i head off upstairs to play MW2 online, i just tell my wife i'm going to play mortal kombat with my friend in vietnam.

    she doesn't get it.

    freaky...

we see movies and think that they are just fiction. but there is more to sci-fi movies that we think. some sci-fi movies are just hinting us about the future and the truth.

The good old days? Weren't they also the days where you were charged extortionate rates based on time spent online? As for spam, there was plenty of it online back then too. I think that, for anybody worried about spam today, just use an adblocker and a decent email account. I could probably count on both hands, the amount of ads I've seen on my desktop since installing ABP some years ago, and you can get it on your phone if you root/jailbreak that, too.

There is nothing more that I do on the internet nowadays than I did back then. I just use youtube as my chat page, and browse the web to read articles on things I'm looking for knowledge for. These social networking sites is just a big 'look at me' fest and every which way you turn you are getting spammed, f-ing sucks.

It was pretty cool but there was so much missing. I would still take today's internet over mid 90s internet even though it had its charm, you're right :)

I actually loved the internet back then, it was so raw and free and I could find information without being spammed to fucking death. I miss the dialup sounds :( Ahh the good ol' days.

This line only sounds "visionary" in retrospect. This movie was released in the mid 90's, by which time sattelite, cable, and communication technology were already rapidly advancing. Most experts in the field were making these very predictions at the time, though granted many of them probably did not realize how incredibly fast it was all coming.

Well developed? The internet is well developed NOW. If you think the internet in 1996 or its place in society was at all comparable to nowadays you are either out of your mind or you just were a little kid back then.

I like to predict he was predicting the future a tiny bit. Through the 3rd party XBAND service available to both Megadrive and Super NES at the time, you could play MK online but only if you lived in North America and you could play on other services against your friend in Nam but just not Mortal Kombat so he did predict a smidgeon of the progress to come. ;)
