Sodicks High Speed Mill - High Speed Machining Center is designed and built for the precision machining of larger scale mold and dies, it can machine materials up to 70HRC with a 10RMS surface finish which can eliminate or vastly reduce hand polishing, Sodick's HSM has a compact design requiring only a 7 x 11 floor space. Its
rigid structure uses high quality FC300 & FC500 sperodial castings. This material is known for its
strength and its ability to resist temperature changes and provide excellent shock and vibration
dampening characteristics. The castings have uniform soundness and fine dense grain structure
resulting in machine rigidity
Sodickshigh speed mills use linear motor designed axis drives. Linear motors have no moving parts
(ball screws, ball nuts, rotary motor). Therefore there's no ball screw to heat up and expand and no
backlash in the system. Linear motors areanon-contact system, provide high acceleration (1.2G) and
high axis speed (1,440/min.). Unlike ball screw drives, linear motors eliminate backlash, are
vibration-free and will last forever. Since high speed mills take shallow cuts, it is a perfect fit for linear
motor drives. All axis drives arecoupled with 7 nanometer glass scale feedback which ensures cutting
accuracy and repeatability. The 40,000 rpm oil-air lubricated spindle is designed to run at a high rpm
while maintaining rigidity without over heating. The 40,000 rpm oil-air lubricated spindle is designed
to run at a high rpm while maintaining stiffness without over heating. The HS650L uses shrink-fit
tool holders. The shrink-fit type tool holders (HSK-E32) areheated until it expands enough for the
tool to slide into the holder spindle. Upon cooling, the holder contracts around the tool. This method
provides the most accurate fit for mills with spindles above 30,000 rpm

HS650L 5 Axis High Speed Mill
The HS650L 5-axis (A and C) trunion
table can rotate 360º and swing 95º
+5º. HS650L 5-Axis High Speed Mill
Sodicks new HS650L linear motor-driven 5-Axis high speed machining center will be on display at
IMTS. Sodicks new 5-Axis table is designed for both high-accuracy and high-speed hard milling. Five-
axis machining can machine even more complex shapes than a three axis mill. Five-axis machining
gives you the ability to machine parts with a single set-up, thus eliminating the need for multiple set-
ups resulting in shorter lead times. The HS640L 5-Axis high speed mill has a 25 x 20 x 12 axis travel and can support a workpiece
weight up to 22 lbs. The HS650LsLN5X CNC control has a large 15 touch screen LCD display. The
1,000 block look ahead featureensures that the received data will be handled quickly and efficiently.
Programs can be transferred via optional USB port or a high speed 3mb/sec Ethernet connection.

  • Send codes? I can see it now...one of the grains in that 20kg sack of rice has our extraction coordinates...two years later....

  • well, that rice grain thing blow my mind...

  • The grain of rice thing is pretty cool. A great way to send codes, lol.
