This creature is from a population evolved first to maximize jumping height and then for traversing a rough terrain (shown in the video).

Processing time for the evolution was kindly donated on the PC of Mait Uus.

  • I apologize for the slow reply. There are no inter-species interactions right now, but I hope to eventually add a feature to pit one species against another in some sort of one-on-one competition.

  • So inter-species interactions are very low at this point?

  • They can't really tell which way they're moving, but they have incline sensors that would tell them which way any given body part is oriented - they could use that as an internal compass (if I'm remembering the implementation correctly).

  • Can your creatures develop any sort of way to observe what direction they are moving, and change it if nessicary?

  • I'm not sure either. Since the list of functions available includes multiplication, IF-statements, and other things, it's possible to convert a sine wave into something that spikes quickly and then stays quiet for most of the phase. It could be doing something like that, or what you suggest, or some combination.. or something else ;)

  • what an interesting design... I wonder if it's just a delayed oscillation or a delayed sensor telling it to move?
