William Zellner, Ph.D, a subscriber to Freethought Today, is a noted sociologist and professor at East Central University, Oklahoma. His recent book on cults in America, "Countercultures"--examining such deviant subcultures as Skinheads, KKK, Scientology, Survivalists and Moonies--is published by St. Martin's Press and was selected for the elite list of books the publisher offers to popular bookstores.

"Countercultures" provides an in-depth look at the commonly held beliefs of cultists. Zellner personally investigated his subjects. He is also author of the fifth edition of "Extraordinary Groups: An Examination of Unconventional Life-styles," used in as many as 600 universities and colleges.

He holds a bachelor's degree in liberal arts and a master's degree in sociology from Western Illinois University. He earned a doctorate in sociology from South Dakota State University. He joined the ECU faculty in 1985. Zellner was recently elected to a second term as president of the Association for the Scientific Study of Religion, and is past president of the Oklahoma Sociological Association.

@boywhoy88 I could care less if some fake magical space djinn is please with me or not. There was no Jesus christ, if there was, he was a cult leader and a liar. Did you know people can actually live crucified for 3 or more days, did you know most get stabbed like he did, but that ever more get their legs broken so that they will die within 3 days? Jesus never had his legs broken. There was no magic about his resurrection, since he probably never died if he existed at all.

@Mglosk See religion wants you to feel guilty about being free and having fun with your life. This is because the hierarchy wants to control you. They fear people not obeying them.  They are out of touch with society and normal human interaction. Most shelter themselves from normal human society and thus are the last people one should go to for advice. @Mglosk Cursing is not bad, it's just words, it's the emotion you put in them that can be bad or good, nothing really wrong with cursing on any level, porn is good fun, nothing wrong with porn, if you are a healthy adult porn can be a very useful tool for fantasy and entertainment. Too much drinking is bad for you, but one to two drinks a day isn't bad. @Mglosk You might feel free but God is definitely not pleased with those who fall away. If I fell away God would be pretty angry with me. He sent his son to save the world. Since he did that, all must go to Jesus Christ for remision of sins. Jesus Christ is the only one that can save us all. We have to trust in him daily though. I would not be talking to right now if he was fake. I would be wasting my time.

@boywhoy88 There is no Jesus to admit any fake sins to. You need to come to reality and understand the truth, that there is no Jesus, there was never any evidence that jesus even existed. Once you open your eyes, wake up and see the world for what it is, you'll have this huge weight lifted off your shoulders. I was once a christian, for 28 years I believed in "jesus" then I started appreciating life. I felt free for the first time when I became an atheist. The best thing ever.

Humans do not know the way of righteousness. Most of what we do as humans is sin in God's eyes. This sick self-hatred that your religion wants you to have is unhealthy. You aren't a sinner, you are a human being trying to survive in this hostile world.
