The following presentation showcases what I've done with HO Scale model trains - specifically the freight cars. What you are seeing are actual plastic models in 1/87th scale that, in most cases, have been custom painted and decaled, using prototypes as a guide. Weathering is the procedure that modelers generally use to "age" a given subject which was purchased in pristine condition. I prefer to "paint" the effects on by hand, layer by layer, as opposed to simply slathering on a grunge product.

I do not do these per request on a commission basis. Ultimately, they are auctioned off to collectors.

The models were weathered by me.

The diorama board and track was constructed by me.

The still photo backgrounds were shot by me.

The music was provided by other copyright holders.

I do have a website - which you can see spelled out in many of the photos. It features a lot of the same work you're viewing here though.

  • These cars just look amazing.. Great job on them all... I do have a question about those flats with military loads on them... what make are those cars?

  • The red DODX flatcars are plain Accurail TOFC models that I modified with a homemade upper deck. The yellow ITTX flatcar is a Walthers with the same treatment.

  • Two Questions. First, did you hand paint most of that graffiti, or were they Decals? And second, have you thought about posting some how-to videos? I know a whole lot of people would love to hear some tips and tricks that you use. Amazing work.

  • The picturesque graffiti generally starts as custom decals that I made from pics of the real thing. I will sometimes blend it or do touch-ups with paint.

I won't be posting How To videos on YouTube. Sorry. You'll have to wait for a book or a DVD sometime in the future.

  • Is there a video of these freight cars in motion?

  • Not unless someone who currently owns a few of them decides to run them on a layout. I never have more than one of these at any given time - so I can't do it.

Also, I have no layout, nor do I belong to a club. So, even if for some unexplained reason I kept a few on hand, I couldn't film any in motion.
