Ok so its just a burst water main I know but its slightly exciting isn't it (LOL!).

This was the scene on the morning of Friday 31st July 2009 at the end of London Road where it meets up with the bottom of Bradshaw Way and Traffic Street.

See this exact view (without the flooding of course) in 360 degrees using Google Street view (Click and then WAIT for the map to change to the street view version):

As you can see the water is threatening to flood out the shops on the corner.
The water was emerging from the ground over a large area, several fountains. It was even comming out of the base of the traffic bollards and the traffic light control Iron cover. Most of the water was comming out of the tarmac near the lights as you can see at 0:15

There was so much water that all the drains were blocked and the water was going all the way down London Road and then down Liversage Road (See 2:25 ), Carrington Street and starting to go up Trinity Street. I left at that point as I don't have a boat and can't swim!

I did not have my HD video camera with me so unfortunately the quality is not great as it was done with my old Olympus 5050 camera.

I dare say those businesses on the corner may find this footage of use for any insurance claims they may have to make. Please do get in touch if you do need anything, happy to help out.

  • I worked at the STW call centre over five years ago. Their lousy induction video claimed that they were 'massively investing' in improving Derby's drainage system to avoid repeats of the floods at the turn of the century. Investment? My back side! I left after just 6 weeks I hated it that much.

  • lets get the rowing boats out, a good setting for cod4 map lmao

  • typical.. i bet 7 trent blame too much traffic, the heat of the sun, the coldness of the water, the people who were looking in its direction for the leak not the fact they are tight arse bstrds who refuse to spend any of the profits they make on upgrading the ancient system of pipes they still think can cope with the ever increasing demand placed on them. i hope it cost them 1,000s and they get 1,000s in fines :)

  • wow lol. i was going to take a walk down town earlier aswell :D
