This is a lesson I recorded in my studio. I have been drilling my students on this for about six weeks and the results have been very good. The chord progression is very standard: A7 D7 A7 A7 D7 D7 A7 A7 E7 D7 A7 E7 repeat. The objectives are: 1) Make sure you can find simple common notes on your fretboard. 2) Play over a 12 bar chord progression in a logical fashion. 3) Become more aware of timing and phrasing, emphasizing certain strong beats that connect with the rhythm section and give a sense of of stability. 4) Target more interesting notes other than roots, such as the 3rd and flatted 7th, which sound great in any style of music. 5) Get used to bends, slides and vibrato. 6) Use efficient fingering. If you would like tablature for these moves, drop me a message and I'll see about mailing it to you. I hope to give you knowledge and confidence in your improvising and help you play less random scale notes and more carefully selected melodic notes that fit specifically over the actual chords that are being played by the band.
We're still running through this series of phrases at the guitar lessons. Solving a lot of technical problems with bends, slides, fingering, vibrato, timing, finding notes etc.
