  • I want to explain this to you guys but i don't know many technical terms, so i'll try my best. turn on your nikon d5100 and hit your LV switch which switches the display to the screen rather than the viewfinder. once you have done this, hit the information button located to the right of your viewfinder eyepiece. bypass image quality, image size, and release mode. once you get to focus mode, hit OK. it is probably set to single-servo AF, you want it on Full-time-servo AF. Select this and hit OK.

  • how do you get this to work???!?! I have a d5100 but I cant get it to autofocus.

  • This may be a dumb question but, is there a way to do this without moving the camera so much?

  • The autofocus doesn't work very well in mine :/ or maybe I'm just doing something wrong...

  • I want to hear the sound!

  • @stupidfreak101 you have to push the info change button and change the focus option to contin. focus. than you can record things on this way.

  • @livelaughlover32

Buy a lens which makes less noise ;-)

It just depends on the lens, some make a lot of noise, some don't.

Of course you can also use an external microphone if you have a D5100.

  • @gnomehater63

It can do it by itself (you have to select AF-F when you're in the live view mode), but I wouldn't really recommend it, obviously it sucks when the lens keeps focussing and thus the picture often gets blurry for some time, not to mention the noise a focusing lens produces.

It's better to focus prior to filming or to focus only when really necessary and focusing manually is probably the best solution.

  • Nice, wish my D90 had autofocus during video capture xD

  • so were you just half pushing the shutter or is there some fancy way to do it where it does it by itself?

  • @zphersia No the only solution i can think of though is to use a remote and hit the shutter button to focus it, which isnt too useful.

  • @PhunnyPunny same thing here. did u solved it already?
