'07 VHT Ultra-Lead and '08 Landry LS100. Both heads are running through my Bogner closed-back 2x12" cab loaded with Warehouse Guitar Speakers ET65s. The guitar is a Gibson '58 Reissue Les Paul with a Rio Grande BBQ humbucker in the bridge.

I don't know what it is, but my video camera makes everything sound muffled. I definitely dial amps in much darker at home than with a band, but not THAT dark. All of my videos are missing the "special" qualities you can only hear in person. Kinda sucks, but it is what it is, I guess.

BOTTOM LINE - The Landry is more open with more treble/presence and sounds huge. The Ultra-Lead is darker and smoother and also big sounding. Just not quite as big as the Landry. I consider the Ultra-Lead as a pretty open sounding amp when compared to other high gainers (Mesa Mark III, Bogner Ecstasy/Shiva, Diezel Einstein, etc...), but the Landry is even more open sounding.

  • You should invest i a good mic or maybe the Zoom Q3. Awesome videos otherwise.

  • @svenzia Most of my videos are done with either a Zoom Q3 or Q3HD video camera, but these older videos were done on a crappy digital camera that didn't give the sound the justice it needs.

  • Thanks for tuning your guitar, 3 times....

  • @Napalmdog No, thank YOu for the smartass comment! I love that.

  • These demos are perfect for tone chasers. You are one solid player too. Great touch, you could probably make a Gorilla amp sound good! Question: What do you mean that the Landry is more "open?" Please do a single coil test too. Thanks.

  • @bscfo1 Thanks man! When I use the term "open", I'm really saying an amp is less "compressed" than alot of other amps. Less distorted and fluid, I guess. A bigger cleaner more "open" sound. Not sure how to describe that in words, but that should give you an idea.

The Landry sounded killer with single coils. Unfortunately, I no longer have most of the gear you see in my videos. I went through a big splurge over several years with buying, selling, and trading. Now I'm down to basics.

  • After seeing numerous amp reviews I've come to the conclusion that you're one of the few people that actually knows what good guitar sound & tone is.

Thanks for reviewing all of those great amps you lucky bastard.

  • @Uberloinvongenchler : absolutely true ! a vht only really sounds like a vht with its own cab.

  • I was lent this bogner cab for my ultralead when I was awaiting a fatbottom cabinet and imo a vht only really sounds like a vht with its own cab. that's probably because mr. fryette designed his own speakers to go with his amps.

  • @bscfo1 I made a Gorilla amp sound fantastic back in, "The Day". I used a OD pedal and a Sustain pedal in front of a Tube Stack Gorilla amp. It sounded like a Marshall, well kind of. It sounded pretty cool at the time!

  • The UL wins it hands down.... for me anyways. I prefer the gain its got and sounds a tighter.

  • @SgtThump Well, you have these videos to remember them by.
