The National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC) is currently accepting applications for its 9th Annual NALAC Leadership Institute. The NALAC Leadership Institute is the premier professional development program for the Latino arts field, providing valuable administrative skills and leadership training to the next generation of Latino arts leaders. This highly-acclaimed training takes place at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, from June 22-27, 2009.
The deadline to apply for this years training is Monday, April 20, and the application is available online at www.nalac.org.
Described as transformational and amazing by participants, the NALAC Leadership Institute brings together emerging Latino artists and key staff of community based Latino arts and cultural organizations from across the nation for intensive training in nonprofit arts management and leadership development.
Latino artists and arts organizations play a significant role in communities across the country, but there are few professional development programs available for them, says Maria De Leon, Executive Director of NALAC. The NALAC Leadership Institute provides exactly the kind of training that is needed right now to help Latino artists and arts organizations survive these tough economic times.
In addition to excellent administrative training, the NALAC Leadership Institute provides the unique opportunity to meet and network with peers from around the country. Fifteen to twenty applicants are selected to attend each year, and NALAC Leadership Institute graduates form a powerful national network of Latino arts leaders, whose creative intellect is shaping the future of Latino arts and culture. Participation is open to artists in all disciplines and from all Latino cultural backgrounds.
Leadership Institute training includes in-depth instruction from national Latino arts leaders in such areas as: * Fundraising and Grant Writing * Capacity Building * Audience Development * Outreach & Publicity * New Technologies * Trends in Philanthropy * Leadership Transition * Board Development * Case Study Reviews
Past Leadership Institute instructors and presenters have included Rosalba Rolon (Pregones Theater), Abel Lopez (GALA Theatre), Maribel Alvarez (The Southwest Center), Anthony J. Garcia (El Centro Su Teatro), Jesse Borrego (Actor), Tomas Ybarra Frausto (independent scholar) and John Phillip Santos (Writer/Filmmaker).
